Abstract:Abstract:5 Liriodendron tulipifera, 10 Liriodendron chinensisand 1 Liriodendron sino americanum which were superior individuals were chosen as the crossing parents from the provenance trial forest of Liriodendronin Jingshan County, Hubei province. 4 mating patterns were conducted including intraspecific hybridization between from L. chinensis different provenances, cross and reciprocal cross between L. chinensis and L. tulipifera, backcross of L. tulipifera×L. sino americanum, amounting to 75 cross combinations. 1 162 cones were obtained and 171 992 seeds were produced. 4 131 seedlings were raised with 64 cross combinations, and 2 976 individuals survived after one growing season. The parents and the interactions among them had significant effects on cone morphology characteristics and growth of annual seedling. Female parent had significant effects on field germination rate, while male parent did otherwise.
