Abstract:Abstracts:The physical and mechanical properties of Taxodium distichum in Jianghan plain were studied. The results were as follows. The density of Taxodium distichum was 0.413 g/cm3,and its density grade was low in terms of the wood physicmechanical classifying criteria. Its integrated MOR (modulus of rupture) was 74MPa,which was very low in terms of the wood physic-mechanical classifying criteria. Its radial compression strength perpendicular to grain of wood was bigger than that of tangential direction, which was strongly related to its structure. The transverse hardness was the highest, while radial hardness was nearly the same with tangential hardness. Outer wood had higher properties than core wood. In addition, Variance analysis of physical and mechanical properties affected by direction was researched. The density and compression strength parallel to grain had no statistically significant difference (at 5% level) between north and south directions, while MOR and MOE had significant difference (at 1% level).
