Abstract:Abstracts:We carried out field surveys on the bird community of the Dajiu Hu National Wetland Park of Shennongjia, Hubei province during the past five years by integrating transects and sampling plot methods. A total of 136 bird species (16 orders, 44 families, 96 genus) were recorded, including 83 Passeriformes species and 53 non-Passeriformes species. There are 28 waterfowl species; with a proportion of 20% against the total species number of birds within the Dajiu Hu National Wetland Park were observed. Our investigations showed that there are 53 species from the Oriental Realm (39%) of the total species number we recorded, the same below and 38 species from the Palearctic Realm (27.9%), with 45 widespread bird species (33.1%), 78 resident species (57.4%), 38 summer migrant species (27.9%), 15 winter migrant species (11%), and 5 passing migrant species (3.7%). Fourty bird species are listed as national or provincial key protected animals in the Dajiu Hu National Wetland Park, which includes 3 species from the List of National Key Protected Animals Category I, 11 species from the List of National Key Protected Animals Category II, and 26 species from the List of Key Protected Animals of Hubei Province.
