Abstract:Abstracts:25-year-old experimental stand of water culture clones propagated from needle fascicles of Pinus elliottii in Jingmen were chosen as research object. The growth amout, wood fiber properties and chemical composition were studied, and the difference of wood characteristics between water culture clones and seedling trees were also discussed. The results showed that the height, diameter at breast height and individual volume were higher 9.10%, 17.50%, and 50.80% higher than seedling trees respectively;there were extremely significant difference in fiber length and width among clones, and no significant difference among different individuals. The fiber length, fiber width and the ratio of length and width were 3.70% lower,12.73% higher and 14% less than the control, respectively. The variation range of the contents of holocellulose, the contents of lignin and the contents of 1% NaOH extractive of different clones were 73.05%~78.22%,22.40%~28.82% and 12.30%~22.70% respectively, which were in line with requirements of pulpwood qualities.Through principal component analysis, clones S-4,S-8 and S-11 were selected as the superior for pulpwood.
