Abstract:Abstract:This paper want to find out that how the Pinus massoniana canopy reflectance reflect the mason pine caterpillar damage stage. The canopy reflectance of P.massoniana at different damage stage were measured in situ, and 9 different spectral indices were calculated to reflect the pine moths damage degree. The results show that: (1) The change of canopy needle volume indicated the harm degree by pine moth, the smaller of canopy needles volume, and the more pests had. While the change of canopy cluster needles also influenced the canopy spectral vegetation index. (2) Vegetation indices derived from P.massoniana canopy reflectance data can reflect damage degrees, but the sensitivity was not the same. Enhanced vegetation index (EVI), green band chlorophyll index (Red/Green) and normal difference vegetation index (NDVI) had a significant change when in the mid and late stage, but these VIs also had saturation phenomenon especially in the early stage, they were more sensitive in the late stage then in the early stage of Mason pine caterpillar. The chlorophyll index at red edge band (CIrededge), ratio vegetation index at 550 nm (RVI550), ratio vegetation index at 700 nm (RVI700), green band normalized difference vegetation index (gNDVI), difference vegetation index (DVI) and structurepigment insensitive index (SPID) were obviously the changed in the whole range and had no saturation and sensitive at the entire period of the insect pest, so it could be used to monitor in the early stage.
