Abstract:Abstract:As two different species in genus Bursaphelenchus,B.xylophilus and B.mucronatus can cause pine wilt disease. There has been a long running debate on whether the two species can hybridize successfully. In this study indoor hybridization were carried out with four isolates of B.xylophilus and B.mucronatus.The fecundity of their offsprings was also observed. The results showed that interspecific hybridization between B.xylophilus and B.mucronatus was possible under the laboratory condition.Cross tests showed that there was no strict reproductive isolation between them, and they were derived from a common ancestor.
