Abstract:To study the population structure quantity and dynamics trend of Pteroceltis tatarinowii in Macheng prefecture, the quadratjuxtaposing grid sampling method was used to perform an population investigation. Analyses on ageclass dynamics, time series prediction and Fourier series of the P. tatarinowii population were made, and the results showed that the number of P. tatarinowii plants in the population declined at the 3rd and the 6th age classes, with no living plant at the 7th age class; dynamic index of Vpi was 22.83%, indicating that the population was in growth, but the antirisk capacity was weak; The number of aging adult plants in the population was predicted to increase later on. The 3rd age is the minor circle of population fluctuation. The current situation of the population is the result of environmental sieve and interspecific and intraspecific competitions. Closetonature forest management together with artificial optimization of the population, is an effective approach to protect the natural P. tatarinowii population.
